Peer Support for Breastfeeding

Overview

Peer support can improve breastfeeding by having non-health care professionals (peers) provide encouragement and support to new or expectant mothers.  Peer support includes psycho-emotional support, encouragement, education about breastfeeding, and problem-solving help. This can be done individually or in groups. Peers may be women who have breastfed in the past or who are currently breastfeeding.
