Food and Beverage Marketing to Favor Healthy Foods and Beverages


Marketing has a powerful effect on consumer choices.  Marketing strategies include determining the target consumer, developing product messages (the product can be information), and testing and effectively communicating those messages. Marketing healthy food and beverage choices can enhance the product’s appeal and inform consumers about healthy choices. Currently, companies spend billions of dollars every year marketing sugar-sweetened beverages and other nutrient-poor food and beverages to all subgroups. By shifting marketing to favor healthy foods and beverages, consumers receive more accurate information about food and beverage choices and are encouraged to select healthy foods and beverages.
