We gave Ghost Greens to two of our product testers one who regularly consumes a different greens powder and one who does not. The restuls were pretty straight forward. Dan who regularly consumes Super Green Tonik or Enso, said that he felt decidedly worse with Ghost Greens by comparison. He also complained of some minor gastric distress over the 4 week test period. Although he did say that this could simply be to changing his usual diet, although he still found it unpleasant. He also stated that the powder did taste great, although not his favorite tasting greens. He was given both Guava and Lime flavors.
Mike (who doesn't regularly consume a greens powder) however did say he noticed some improvement in energy levels through the day and did think it was helping with his overall health. He noted that drinking it daily resulted in some gastric distress, but swapping to drinking ghost greens every other day had no issues. He also liked the taste and said he'd keep it around using it occasionally, but felt a multivitamin was more suitable for daily consumption and didn't feel notable difference between the two.
Ghost Fruits And Vegetables Blend - 6640 MG
Super Greens Blend - 4340 MG
Kale Powder - 1390 MG
Kale can provide numerous health benefits, such as reducing your cholesterol levels and risk of heart disease, as it is rich in phytochemicals, vitamins, and minerals (1).
The problem is, these benefits only occur if you consume at least 5 grams per day. As this is more than three times the amount present in Ghost Greens, it won't be of any use.
Organic Matcha - 500 MG
Matcha is a finely ground green tea extract that is full of antioxidants, caffeine, catechins, chlorophyll, phenolic acids, quercetin, rutin, theanine, and vitamin c.
It can promote fat burning and weight loss, reduce inflammation, detoxify the liver, boost heart and cognitive functions, and prevent certain illnesses and diseases.
However, it will only do this when you ingest at least 2 grams per day (2). With this being four times the amount present in Ghost Greens, it again won't be of any use.
Organic Wheat Grass - 500 MG
Wheat grass powder is made from the new sprouts that grow on the wheat plant and it is said to be full of antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals, while being very low in calories.
There are claims that it can prevent oxidative damage and heart disease, reduce inflammation and your cholesterol levels, and combat arthritis and some other diseases.
Unfortunately, none of these claims have ever been proven, so its presence in Ghost Greens may be of no use at all (3).
Organic Spirulina - 500 MG
Spirulina is a blue green algae full of antioxidants, fatty acids, protein, vitamins, and minerals.
It is commonly put in super greens powders as it offers health benefits like being able to fight free radicals, prevent oxidative damage, reduce inflammation, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels, boost your metabolism and heart health, and suppress your appetite (4).
However, the miniscule 500 mg present in Ghost Greens is far below the 8 grams required each day to be of use, so it won't serve any real purpose.
Organic Cracked Cell Wall Chlorella - 500 MG
Chlorella is a chlorophyte green algae rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, which can boost your energy levels better than sugar, without spiking your blood sugar levels.
It can even help you control your blood sugar and cholesterol levels, fight diseases and illnesses, detoxify your body, and improve your overall health (5).
Yet again though, the 500 mg in Ghost Greens is far lower than the 3 to 10 grams needed to produce these effects, meaning it won't be of much use.
Organic Barley Grass - 250 MG
Barley grass is rich in nutrients, has been widely used for centuries, and can offer health benefits such as enhancing your heart health, promoting fat burning and weight loss, and reducing cholesterol and blood sugar levels (6).
As with everything else in the blend though, the amount present in Ghost Greens simply can't produce these effects.
Organic Oat Grass - 250 MG
Oat grass is sometimes put in a greens powder as there are suggestions that it is full of fibre, protein, vitamins, and minerals, and can boost your gut health, immune system, and skin quality.
The issue is, very little is actually known about it, so its presence in the Ghost Greens ingredients may be of absolutely no use (7).
Organic Alfalfa Grass - 250 MG
Alfalfa grass is added to greens powders as it contains an antioxidant called pinitol, which can improve your liver, kidney, and gut health and functions.
Unfortunately, these health benefits have only been seen in people consuming large quantities of fresh alfalfa grass (8).
This means it is very unlikely it serves any purpose in Ghost Greens.
Broccoli Powder - 100 MG
Broccoli powder is put in greens powders almost exclusively for its ability to lower your cholesterol levels (9).
However, not only is broccoli's effect on your cholesterol levels only mild but it also takes huge quantities to produce it and its effects have never been proven to be produced when it is consumed in powder form.
This makes broccoli powder yet another of Ghost Greens ingredients that is all but guaranteed to be of no use.
Organic Astragalus 10:1 - 100 MG
Astragalus is a root extract that has anti inflammatory properties and has been proven to boost your heart, immune system, and liver health and functions and testosterone production, while reducing cholesterol levels, provided you take at least 30 mg per day (10).
This makes it a rare instance where it appears Ghost Greens has actually used a suitable dose of a proven and beneficial ingredient.
Antioxidant Reds Blend - 2200 MG
Beyond its various super greens, the Ghost Greens Fruits And Vegetables Blend also contains a range of antioxidant reds as well.
They are acai juice powder (500 mg), pomegranate juice powder (500 mg), blueberry juice powder (350 mg), cranberry powder (350 mg), jabuticaba powder (100 mg), camu camu juice powder (100 mg), aronia fruit powder (100 mg), organic noni 5:1 (100 mg), and organic goji berry powder (100 mg).
Many of these are indeed proven to have antioxidant properties and offer a variety of health benefits, such as goji berry powder. However, in order to do so, they must be consumed in far greater amounts than what is present in the Ghost Greens powder.
They are then surrounded by ingredients that either haven't been researched enough to have conclusive evidence backing up their claims or which have actually been proven to have little or no effect.
So, while the Ghost Greens Antioxidant Reds Blend may look like a nice bonus, in reality it does not really serve any purpose.
Spectra Total Orac Blend - 100 MG
The Spectra Total Orac Blend contains coffee arabica extract, green tea extract, broccoli sprout concentrate, onion extract, apple extract, quercetin, tomato concentrate, broccoli concentrate, camu camu concentrate, maltodextrin, acerola extract, acai concentrate, basil concentrate, turmeric concentrate, garlic concentrate, oregano concentrate, cinnamon concentrate, carrot concentrate, elderberry concentrate, mangosteen concentrate, blackcurrant extract, blueberry extract, sweet cherry concentrate, raspberry concentrate, spinach concentrate, chokeberry concentrate, kale concentrate, blackberry concentrate, silicon dioxide, bilberry extract, and Brussels sprout concentrate.
The issue here is the same that is present whenever a greens supplement contains Spectra.
The manufacturers cram tiny doses of useful ingredients into proprietary blends with useless ones just to get them on the ingredients list.
So, while it may look good on the surface, in reality it is essentially useless.
Ghost Gut Health Blend - 2225 MG
Inulin Prebiotic From Chicory Root source - 2000 MG
Inulin is a type of soluble prebiotic fiber that boosts gut health by enhancing digestion and nutrient absorption. This prevents weight gain and promotes weight loss, boosts energy levels, reduces inflammation, relieves constipation, and regulates blood sugar and cholesterol levels (11).
Unfortunately, it only does any of this when you consume at least 10 grams of inulin per day. This means Ghost Greens contains only 20% of what is required for the inulin to actually be effective.
Ghost Probiotic Blend - 115 MG (10 Billion CFUs)
The Ghost Probiotic Blend consists of b. subtilis, l. acidophilus, s. boulardii, b. coagulans, and b. lactis. While some of these are very popular probiotics, others are much less effective and are present in place of more beneficial options.
The dosage present tells a similar story as, while it is enough to be of some use, it won't produce the effects that a greens supplement which uses optimal dosages will be capable of.
So, while the probiotics in Ghost Greens are a nice touch, they definitely don't make up for the flaws enough to make it a good idea to buy Ghost Greens.
BioCore Optimum Complete - 110 MG
BioCore Optimum Complete is Ghost Greens' trademarked blend of digestive enzymes. It contains amylase, protease, alpha-galactosidase, glucoamylase, lactase, invertase, lipase, acid maltase, and peptidase.
While this range of digestive enzymes is fairly good, it does omit one of the 7 main digestive enzymes, sucrase, and is far smaller than the 500 mg of digestive enzymes that is required each day to produce optimal results.
It is therefore a similar story to the probiotics in that, while it is a nice touch, it is not enough to save Ghost Greens from being an ineffective product.
