On April 30, 2013, Center TRT presented a webinar on the Connecticut Breastfeeding Initiative, an intervention that provides technical assistance, financial assistance and training to hospitals to work toward Baby-Friendly Hospital Designation.
The Connecticut Breastfeeding Initiative, a collaboration between the Connecticut Breastfeeding Coalition and the Connecticut Department of Public Health, was designed to promote practices in maternity facilities that support the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding. The cornerstone of the Connecticut Breastfeeding Initiative is the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), comprised of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding that focus on breastfeeding initiation, exclusive breastfeeding, skin-to-skin contact, rooming in and more. By providing a state-level support system of training, technical assistance, and financial assistance, the Connecticut Breastfeeding Initiative facilitated multiple hospitals in moving down the 4-D Pathway with the intention of becoming designated as Baby-Friendly.
