The main issue we had with Organifi Gold is that quite simply it isn't a sleep aid, despite really pushing itself as something that helps you get to sleep quicker. It didn't really achieve this. We gave the product to two of our regular testers, one who often uses stronger sleep and stress supplements, and one who had no major issues with sleeping. The results were pretty clear that organifi wasn't at all a supplement that would replace a proper sleep aid as it had functionally no effect.
As for our second tester who doesn't have any particular issues with sleep, but does occasionally use stress support, they did report that they had a better nights sleep, and did also say that they found it helpful when on a high protein diet in reducing morning stomach cramps. So, it definitely did have some use. Although they also stated there was no benefit to stress.
Both concluded however that it was definitely not worth it's price point.
A quick note on proprietory blends: Proprietory blends legally have to list ingredients from largest to smallest in the US, this will help us to breakdown whether or not the ingredients are in their effective ranges.
Digestion Blend - 2.98 Grams
Prebiotic Organic Acacia Powder
Acacia powder is a type of prebiotic fibre that is extracted from the sap of the acaica tree. It is said to boost immunity, digestion, and gut health by promoting the growth of healthy bacteria within the gut.
The problem is, its benefits on digestion and the immune system can only be seen if you consume at least 10 grams of acacia powder per day (1).
While Organifi Gold tries to hide the dosages present of all of its ingredients in a proprietary blend, the fact that the recommended daily dose of acacia powder is more than 3 times the weight of the entire blend means it is easy for us to see that not enough is present to be of use.
Organic Coconut Milk Powder (From Fruit)
Coconut milk is full of antimicrobials, antioxidants, electrolytes, and medium chain fatty acids, which between them can offer health benefits such as like reducing inflammation and improving the health of the heart and digestive system.
Unfortunately, it is also full of calories, sugar, and saturated fats as well, which have been linked to various health problems, including heart disease and weight gain (2).
As the coconut milk in Organifi Gold is hidden in a proprietary blend that masks its dosage, it is therefore impossible to tell if it will benefit your health positively or negatively.
Organic Ceylon Cinnamon Bark Powder
Cinnamon bark powder is extracted from the cinnamomum cassia plant and it has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine.
This is largely due to the belief that it has the ability to lower blood lipid levels, help you control your blood sugar levels, promote weight loss, and combat diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.
The problem is, none of its claimed benefits have ever been proven, which makes it highly likely that its inclusion in Organifi Gold will actually offer no benefits at all (3).
Organic Ginger Root Extract
Ginger root extract is a great supplement that can offer a range of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. It can prevent oxidative damage, support joint health, reduce joint pain and cholesterol levels, boost the immune system, and promote healthy digestion.
It even has the ability to enhance the bioavailability of all of the other ingredients in the formula, making them easier to absorb and more effective (4).
The problem is, these benefits are only produced if you consume at least 1 gram of ginger extract each day.
While the blend it is in hides the exact dosage of ginger root that is present, it would need to take up a third of the blend to be useful, which is impossible, given it is the fourth listed ingredient. It is possible that you could still have some benefit at around 700mg, but it isn't by any mens optimal. Which is a shame as it's the best ingredient in organifi for digestion.
Organic Black Pepper Fruit Extract
Black pepper fruit extract is often added to weight loss supplements, as it can help to promote fat burning by stimulating thermogenesis. However, its inclusion in a superfood supplement powder like this will have more to do with it being a bioavailability enhancer.
This means it has the ability to make all of the other ingredients in Organifi Gold easier to absorb and more effective (5). The problem is, 20 mg of black pepper fruit extract is required to produce these effects.
As the proprietary blend makes it impossible to tell how much is present, we have no way of knowing if its inclusion in Organifi Gold will be of any use.
Recovery Blend - 2.195 Grams
Organic Turmeric Root Extract
Turmeric root extract is obtained from the curcuma longa flowering plant, It has been used in traditional medicines around the world for centuries, as it is a rich source of curcumin, a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.
This allows it to offer a wide variety of health benefits, including neutralising free radicals, preventing damage to our bones, cartilage, muscles, and organs, promoting repair and recovery, maintaining healthy joints and combatting joint pain and stiff joints (6).
However, for any of these benefits to be enjoyed, 1,500 mg of curcumin must be consumed per day. While it is possible that Organifi Gold has this amount, the use of a proprietary blend makes it hard to know, but the whole blend weighing 2.195 grams does make it highly unlikely.
Organic Lemon Balm Leaf Extract
Lemon balm leaf extract is sourced from a plant in the mint family that is proven to be rich in vitamin c and a variety of minerals. It is said to offer a range of health benefits, such as aiding relaxation, boosting mood and brain functions, and reducing stress and anxiety levels.
Unfortunately, none of the claimed benefits of lemon balm leaf extract have ever been proven, which means its inclusion in Organifi Gold is highly unlikely to do be of any use at all (7).
Organic Turkey Tail Mushroom Fruiting Body Extract
Turkey tail mushroom is a polypore mushroom found around the globe that is full of antioxidants and polysaccharide k. It is proven to promote a healthy immune system and gut and help to treat a variety of chronic health conditions, including type 2 diabetes (8).
The issue is, 2 to 3 grams of turkey tail mushroom must be consumed each day to produce these effects. As this weighs more than the entire blend that it is buried in, we can clearly see that there is not enough turkey tail mushroom present in Organifi Gold to be of any use.
Magnesium Chloride
Magnesium chloride is a salt made of magnesium and chlorine that is one of the best known forms of magnesium when it comes to its ability to be absorbed and digested.
It is proven to offer a range of health benefits that includes soothing sore muscles and easing constipation and heartburn, all of which would prevent you from enjoying a deep sleep.
There are, however, two issues with its inclusion. First off, there are reports that it can cause side effects in the digestive system. Then there is the fact that between 320 and 420 mg of magnesium must be consumed each day for it to be of use (9).
With it being lumped into a proprietary blend in Organifi Gold, there is therefore unfortunately no way to know what effects it will produce, if any.
Organic Reishi Mushroom Fruiting Body Extract
Reishi mushroom extract comes from a polypore fungus in the ganoderma family that is native to east Asia. Having been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, as well as those in other countries, it is believed to offer a huge range of health benefits.
It is said to boost the health of the immune system and its functions, relive stress, lower blood sugar levels, improve your mood, and combat metabolic syndrome and certain other chronic illnesses (10).
While more research is required to conclusively prove all of its claimed benefits, the current evidence is extremely promising. However, it does suggest that at least 1.44 grams of Reishi mushroom extract must be consumed each day to produce them.
As Reishi mushroom extract is the last of five ingredients in a blend that weighs just 2.195 grams in total, even the use of a proprietary blend is not enough to hide the fact that there simply is not a sufficient amount present to be of any use.
