Vitamin D (As Cholecalciferol) - 20 MCG
Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin that can produce a huge range of beneficial effects on the human body.
This includes boosting your mood, testosterone production, and protein synthesis, helping you relax, keep calm, and fall asleep, preventing fat storage and fatigue, reducing estrogen production, and improving your body composition, nutrient breakdown and absorption, recovery time, and natural energy production (1).
Taking it in a supplement will also prevent you from becoming vitamin d deficient, which can cause a whole range of health issues, including high blood pressure, trouble sleeping, fatigue, weak or painful bones or muscles, depression, anxiety, a loss of appetite or hair, and a compromised immune or nervous system.
With 20 mcg of vitamin d being the maximum safe daily dosage, the quantity present in Zenium works as well as could be hoped and actually has the formula starting out looking strong.
Magnesium (As Citrate) - 150 MG
The mineral magnesium controls over 600 different reactions in the cells throughout the human body.
Scientific studies show that it has calming properties that will help you relax, soothe sore or aching muscles, and treat or prevent many of the most common causes of sleep disorders, including dehydration and cramping, to help create ideal sleeping conditions to ensure that you are always well rested (2).
The problem is, at least 250 mg of magnesium is required each day in order to produce these effects. This means that the 150 mg present in each serving of Zenium Tranquility simply is not strong enough to be of any real use.
Zenium Tranquility Blend - 1,300.3 MG
2-Aminoethanesulfonic Acid (Amino Acid Taurine)
2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, better known as taurine, is an amino acid that is essential to keep the brain, eyes, heart, muscles, and nerves healthy and functioning at an optimal level and cholesterol levels down, while it can also boost your energy levels and accelerate fat burning (3).
Unfortunately, these benefits are only seen when you take at least 3 grams of taurine per day. This means even the use of proprietary blends can't hide the fact that there isn't enough present in Zenium Tranquility to be of any use.
L-Theanine HCL
L-theanine is a non-essential amino acid that can keep your body, brain, and immune system healthy and functioning at optimal levels. It is very popular in rest aids as it produces a calming effect that can help you to relax, provide relief from anxiety, depression, and stress, help you focus, and prevent sleep problems.
To produce these effects, you need to consume 200 mg of l-theanine per day (4). As the second ingredient listed in a proprietary blend that weighs 1,300 mg, it is possible that Zenium Tranquility contains this dose, but them hiding the dosage is annoying, but it's likely in the correct dose here, it's where everything else starts to go wrong.
Ashwagandha Root Powder (Withania Somnifera)
The root extract of the ashwagandha plant has long been used in traditional Indian medicine.
It can ease anxiety and stress, boost your sleep quality, mental health, and memory, help you concentrate and focus, lower your blood sugar levels, prevent fat storage, boost muscle size and strength, aid athletic performance, and boost fat loss, heart health, testosterone levels, sexual functions, and fertility.
300 mg of ashwagandha is the optimal dosage per serving and it is possible that Zenium Tranquility contains this amount (5). Unfortunately, there isn't going to be enough here, or every ingredient underneath this one can't possibly be in a reasonable dose. The reason it's not likely to be 300mg, is theanine is probably dosed at 200mg, and list placement means this will likely be lower, there's also the fact that it would mean there's only 300mg or less to work with for everything else.
5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP)
5-hydroxytryptophan is an amino acid that is proven to improve the production of serotonin in the brain and is one of the best ways to do so, as it can cross the blood brain barrier much more easily than most other compounds.
By increasing serotonin production, it can boost your mood, help you relax, improve your sleep quality, treat depression symptoms, chronic stress, and anxiety disorder, suppress your appetite, and even aid weight loss, provided you consume at least 200 mg of 5-htp per day (6). Some studies show it can perform at 100mg, but this is only usually as a sleep aid or for the weight loss elements, not the anxiety and stress.
Unfortunately, while it is possible that Zenium Tranquility contains this amount, the proprietary blend makes it hard to know for sure, while the position of 5-htp on the ingredients list makes it highly unlikely.
Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA)
Gamma-aminobutyric acid is a neurotransmitter produced by the brain of all adult mammals that is in charge of inhibiting certain neurological receptors. This allows it to control how easily people become excited or are able to relax.
Studies have shown that people with more GABA in their system will be able to deal with physically and mentally stressful situations much more easily, helping them to keep calm, deal with anxiety, and get to sleep much faster (7).
While Zenium Tranquility has tried to hide the GABA dosage by using proprietary blends, the weight on the blend and GABA's place in it mean it is impossible for it to contain enough to be of use.
Gotu Kola Leaf Powder (Centella Asiatica)
Gotu Kola is a type of pennywort plant often used in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine. It is claimed to improve brain, heart, and immune health and functions, improve wound healing, and combat anxiety and rheumatism.
Unfortunately, all clinical studies on gotu kola to date have been conducted on rats and produced no conclusive proof that the benefits will be produced in humans (8). This means its inclusion in Zenium Tranquility is highly likely to do nothing at all.
Lemon Balm Powder
Lemon balm is a leaf extract from a plant in the mint family that contains high levels of vitamin c and a range of minerals. It is believed to offer numerous health benefits, including making it easier to relax, boosting your mood and brain functions, and helping you to relieve stress and anxiety.
The problem is, none of the claimed benefits of lemon balm leaf extract have ever been proven. This makes it another ingredient in Zenium Tranquility that is as likely to do nothing as it is to actually work (9).
Rhodiola Rosea Root Powder
Rhodiola rosea powder is an extract from the roots of an Arctic flowering plant long used in herbal medicine due to claims that it is an adaptogen rich in various nutrients which can offer numerous benefits.
This includes it boosting brain functions, mental energy, metabolic processes, mood, concentration, and focus, reducing anxiety, depression, fatigue, stress, and inflammation, improving your general well being, and helping to treat a variety of medical conditions (10).
Unfortunately, there are numerous issues with its inclusion in Zenium Tranquility.
For starters, as there have not been many clinical studies done on rhodiola rosea, none of its claimed uses have yet been conclusively proven.
Then there is the fact that even the studies which do support its use say 288 mg must be consumed each day for it to be beneficial. Given its place at the bottom of a blend that weighs just 1,300 mg in total, it is simply not possible for this amount to be present.
To top it all off, its use has even been linked to side effects like dizziness, dry mouth, and negative interactions with other drugs in your system.
Valerian Root Powder
Valerian root powder is a mild natural ingredient that is common in sleep aids as it activates the GABA neurotransmitters in the brain to safely relieve stress and anxiety and help you get to sleep much faster (11).
Unfortunately, these effects are only produced if you consume 300 mg of valerian root per day. As the very last and thus smallest ingredient listed in a blend that weighs 1,300 mg, even when they hide its dosage it is still obvious that there is not enough present in Zenium Tranquility to do you any good.
Pros
Contains many natural elements that are proven to be effective in a sleep or stress relief supplement
Very reasonably priced
Cons
Numerous ingredients are included that have not been conclusively proven to benefit the human body
