Avantera Mood And Gut Health Blend - 355 MG
Turmeric Extract (Curcuma Longa)
Turmeric extract is obtained from the roots of a plant in the ginger family called the curcuma longa. It has long been used in both cooking and traditional medicines throughout Asia for centuries as it is rich in curcumin.
With its proven and potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, curcumin is well known to neutralise free radicals, prevent and reduce oxidative damage and inflammation, and protect the cartilage, joints, and organs from breaking down and degrading.
Curcumin is also particularly beneficial for brain health and cognitive abilities, as it can prevent mental decline, brain fog, and the loss of memory and cognitive functions (1).
The problem is, the beneficial effects of turmeric extract, particularly those relating to brain function, are only really seen when you consume at least 1,500 mg each day. And that's of the curcumin extract which makes up only around 20% of tumeric.
Avantera Elevate may hide its turmeric content in the Avantera Mood And Gut Health Blend but, as the whole blend weighs just 355 mg, even proprietary blends can't hide the fact that there simply isn't enough present here to be of any real use.
Organic Lion's Mane Fruiting Bodies Extract
Lion's mane is a type of mushroom and tooth fungus that is native to Asia, Europe, and North America. They are incredibly popular for cooking and eating, as they have a rich flavour and texture.
They also boast a range of medicinal qualities, most of which stem from its ability to help you achieve optimal cognitive function and immune system health.
It can aid cognitive performance, boost brain cell and nerve cell growth, prevent age related mental decline, improve memory, focus, and concentration, reduce inflammation, enhance blood flow to the brain cells, and offer a variety of other immune health benefits (2).
Yet again though, we face the same issue we saw with the turmeric extract.
It is generally believed that doses of around 500 mg of lion's mane must be consumed each day in order to enjoy the benefits it can offer.
While it is hidden in a proprietary blend, the blend weighing less than the required dose means there simply can't be enough present in Avantera Elevate to be of any use.
BioPerine Black Pepper Extract (Fruit)
BioPerine is a patented black pepper extract, which comes from the piper nigrum plant and is one of the most widely used spices in the world.
It is most commonly added to dietary supplements as it is a bioavailability enhancer. This means it can improve the absorption and efficacy of all of the other bioactive compounds and ingredients in a supplement.
It is of particular use in a nootropic supplement, as it can improve cognitive function and mood and reduce inflammation.
It can then offer a range of other health benefits, which include boosting metabolism and exercise performance, regulating blood sugar levels, and combatting certain chronic health issues.
The issue is, the BioPerine is hidden in one of the supplement's proprietary blends. While it is possible that Avantera Elevate contains the 20 mg of black pepper extract required for it to be of use, there is just no way to prove this or know if it will actually aid your brain health (3).
Bacopa Monnieri Extract (Containing 50% Bacosides) - 300 MG
Bacopa monnieri extract comes from an aquatic plant in the plantain family called bacopa that is native to tropical environments. It has been used as a traditional medicine around the world, due to claims of the wide ranging health benefits that it can offer.
These benefits include an ability to improve overall brain function, reduce stress and anxiety levels, and help to combat various mental and physical chronic health conditions (4).
Bacopa isn't the most well researched nootropic ingredient, but most early tests are promising that it boosts cognitive function, and considering it is pretty much the only thing in Avantera Elevate that is correctly dosed, it's likely if the positive customers avantera elevate reviews are anything to go by, this is doing the heavy lifting. The thing is, at this point you could just get some bacopa monnieri and a better anti inflammatory and antioxidant supplement or simply a probiotic and be much better off.
Avantera Focus And Energy Blend - 295 MG
Citicoline Sodium Salt (CDP Choline)
Citicoline sodium salt is a version of the amino acid CDP choline, which offers benefits such as boosting neurotransmitter production, improving physical and mental performance, and reducing your cholesterol levels.
CDP choline offers all of these benefits as well, but, its altered metabolic pathways mean it can offer a number of extra health benefits of its own too.
It can increase mental focus and energy levels, reduce the effects of aging, prevent damage, remove toxins, slow or stop cognitive decline, and benefit your long term cognitive health (5).
The issue is, while the optimal dose of CDP choline is not universally agreed on, all studies agree that it is somewhere between 500 and 2,000 mg per day.
While we don't know exactly how much is present in Avantera Elevate, the entire Focus And Energy Blend it is found in weighing just 295 mg means it is impossible for there to be enough for it to be of any real use.
Suntheanine L-Theanine
Suntheanine l-theanine is a patented version of the non essential amino acid l-theanine. It is mainly needed to keep your immune system functioning correctly and your body and brain healthy, while optimising your overall cognitive performance.
It can enhance cognitive function by giving you improved focus, enhancing relaxation and sleep quality, reducing anxiety, and relieving stress.
The problem is, the optimal dosage of l-theanine needed to produce the maximum benefits of l-theanine is around 200 mg (6).
While Avantera Nutrition have tried to hide the dosage of l-theanine present, it being the second ingredient listed in a proprietary blend that weighs 295 mg in total means we can work out that there is less than that present here. Now, there are some studies which show 100mg of L Theanine can have some benefit, but 200mg is the optimal dose. And as many have shown it to be ineffective at 100mg.
That means the dose of l-theanine in Avantera Elevate is unlikely to be of any real use or less likely than it should be at best.
Caffeine (From Green Tea Extract (50mg)
Caffeine is one of the most popular and potent stimulants of Earth, and it is well known to boost your energy levels, metabolism, and rate of fat burning.
It also serves various cognitive functions, including improving your alertness, focus, and mental energy levels, reducing tiredness, and preventing fatigue.
Avantera Nutrition also specify that the caffeine comes from green tea extract, which offers brain health benefits of its own, such as reducing inflammation and protecting the brain cells from damage.
Unfortunately, for the cognitive benefits of caffeine to be seen, you must consume at least 200 mg per day (7). Not only is this far less than the weight of green tea extract listed, but green tea is also a very poor source of caffeine when compared to things like coffee beans.
This not only means the caffeine content of Avantera Elevate is insufficient, but it also appears to be an intentional attempt to deceive, as they have mentioned green tea due to the benefits it is capable of producing, despite not being able to produce them here.
